Walking... to loose weight... a great exercise!

Walking is a good way to stay in shape if practiced regularly. Its a good idea to walk approximately 45 minutes to an hour a day, if your condition and time permits. As a general guideline, walking for "45 minutes" a day, at a "pace" of 11 minute-kilometer (that is, one kilometer in 11 minutes), a 50 kg person will burn 150 calories. A 70 kg person will burn 200 calories. An 80 kg person will burn 250 calories.

Walking at a slightly faster "pace" for "45 minutes", for example walking at a "pace" of 8 minute-kilometer (that is, one kilometer in 8 minutes), a 50 kg person will burn 200 calories. A 70 kg person will burn close to 300 calories. An 80 kg person will burn close to 330 calories.

You can increase the duration or pace of walking, this will obviously increase the amount of calories burned. Eventually, you may feel like proceeding to power walking or jogging, or perhaps just continue to walk, as walking itself, allows you to think positively and relax. You may decide that the best course is to walk twice a day, whenever convenient and wherever you like to walk. A good pair of walking or running shoes is a must.

As for precautions, in certain regions of the Middle East & North Africa, where it is quite hot close noon, it is very important to carry water with you, or have access to water or fluids to avoid dehydration. Try to avoid extreme weather, such as, hot and humid weather, where the risk of dehydration and heat stroke ("darbat shams") is real and can lead to serious complications.

If you feel tired, weak, dizzy or light headed, these are warning signs, they indicate the need for rest and hydration (need liquids) and perhaps a need to seek further care.
